Facilities for our Patients

Orchard Medical Practice provides Personal Medical Services (PMS) from spacious premised designed in contemporary style to provide patients with high quality 21st century Primary Health Care facilities. The Medical Centre houses 2 separate practices, our combined NHS registered population is approximately 19,000. We are delighted to have our colleagues from health visiting, mental health, midwifery and ENT providing services on this site. The Lloyds on-site pharmacy provides a convenient source for health advice on minor illnesses, OTC (over the counter) medicines and prescriptions only. From 1 April 2013 functions relating to the direct commissioning of Primary Care became the responsibility of NHS England Area Teams. The East Anglia Area Team is based in Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire.

CAR PARKING

Although there is a large car park at the rear of the premises it is for the benefit of patients only when they are attending the surgery. The car park is monitored by CCTV and fines may be imposed for inappropriate use; if you are uncertain please read the signs displayed within the car park.
 

FACILITIES FOR PATIENTS WITH DISABILITIES

We aim to improve access to the health centre, there are automatic doors at the front and rear of the premises. There is also a lift to the first floor. Please let our Receptionist know if you will need extra assistance.
 

Treating people equally

There is a distinction to be made between those people whose first language is not English and those who have a disability that makes communications difficult. In law (Equality Act 2010), all businesses and services (including GP practices) have an obligation to make "reasonable" adjustments for disabled people. We aim to do this. For example, if needed we will make large print documents available on request for the visually impaired; we have a hearing loop located on reception there is a small sign indicating where this is.

Although we will aim to make available information in other languages there is, however, no reasonable adjustments requirement in relation to interpreting and translation on the grounds of race or nationality.  We do offer patients, for whom English is a problem the option of having a consultation using language line.  On occasion there may be difficulty in getting an interpreter for a particular language dialect.  We would always recommend that where possible you bring an interpreter with you.
